Ambroxan

Also known as: Ambrox

An aroma material associated with ambergris-like effects. Escentric Molecules uses it as the single featured scent material in Molecule 02.

Ambroxan is an aroma material used for ambergris-like effects in perfumery. Escentric Molecules describes its Molecule 02 as Ambroxan in alcohol and a little water, with a fresh, almost mineral character. That gives you a finished fragrance in which to explore the material.

Wearers describe different impressions of Molecule 02. One enjoys a clean, salty-cedar scent but wants stronger projection. Another finds it hard to smell consistently, enjoying occasional warm, slightly sweet impressions in between. Try it in your usual routine to see which parts you notice.

Keep Molecule 02 separate from Escentric 02, which is a different composition. Also distinguish an ambergris-like aroma material from natural ambergris and from an amber accord: the words can appear in related descriptions without identifying the same ingredient.

When a perfume highlights Ambroxan among other notes, compare the complete composition. Other materials can change the sweetness, woodiness and overall character you enjoy. A highlighted ingredient is a useful starting point for a shortlist.
