Discontinued
A fragrance that a house has stopped producing or withdrawn from its range. Remaining retail stock and availability can differ from the maker’s current range.
A discontinued fragrance has been withdrawn from a house’s range or is no longer being produced. Existing stock can still be listed by retailers. A sold-out page, by itself, tells you about availability rather than the production status of the perfume.
Look for the maker’s statement when you want to check a rumour. Escentric Molecules, for example, says in its FAQ that The Beautiful Mind series is no longer available to purchase. That establishes what the brand says about availability; it does not specify a cause or promise what other shops hold.
If you are considering an older bottle, compare the exact version, size, condition and seller’s description with what you want. Decide what you are comfortable spending on a fragrance you expect to use. Discontinued status alone is not a reason to buy a backup or pay a collector’s premium.
