Fresh

A broad description for bright, crisp or airy scent impressions, including citrus, green, herbal and watery directions. Freshness describes character rather than a guaranteed strength or wear time.

Fresh can describe several directions in a fragrance. Citrus may give a bright impression, green notes can suggest leaves or stems, and watery notes can evoke sea air or a dewy floral character. The word is more useful when paired with one of those specific effects.

Freshness can also sit alongside warmth. Davidoff describes Cool Water Eau de Toilette with peppermint and lavender, followed by oakmoss, geranium and sandalwood, and a base of amber and musk. Its fresh theme does not exclude a warmer background.

If you are shopping for a fresh scent, decide which version of freshness appeals to you. Compare citrus with herbs, or a green floral with a marine direction. Notice whether you prefer a sharp opening, a softer musky effect or more woody character later.

Try the sample in the setting where you expect to wear it. Fresh does not automatically mean faint, brief or suitable for every shared space. Choose the amount of presence you enjoy as well as the scent itself.
