How to Use Body Spray
Apply body spray to the areas and at the distance stated on its label, starting with a light application. Body sprays vary: some add fragrance, some are deodorants, and some sprays are antiperspirants. They don’t all belong on the same parts of your body.
What Is Body Spray?
Body spray is a way to apply a product, usually from an aerosol can or pump bottle. It doesn’t specify one fragrance concentration or guarantee a mild scent. A spray called a deodorant has an odor-control purpose; an antiperspirant is intended to reduce sweating.
Check the full product name before using it. For example, Old Spice sells a Swagger antiperspirant spray as well as other Swagger formats. The scent name alone doesn’t tell you where or how to apply it.
When To Apply Body Spray
Clean, dry skin is a useful starting point when the product’s directions call for it. If you’re using a separate underarm product, let it dry before dressing and keep fragrance application within the directions for that fragrance.
You don’t need to add an antiperspirant simply because you’re wearing body spray. Choose it if sweat reduction is what you want, and choose a deodorant if its intended odor-control use suits your routine. An unscented option can avoid combining two competing fragrances.
How To Apply Body Spray For Men And Women
- Read the can or bottle for application areas, distance and amount. Check whether it needs shaking.
- Use it in a ventilated space, away from flames or heat if the product carries a flammability warning. Avoid inhaling the spray.
- Apply lightly to the permitted areas. Don’t spray your face, eyes, intimate areas or irritated skin unless that exact product is specifically intended for that use.
- Let the product dry before dressing. Don’t assume it’s suitable for spraying onto clothing or hair.
- Notice how strong the scent feels before topping up. Follow any limits on the label rather than repeatedly covering the whole body.
The distance isn’t universal. AXE Dark Temptation’s US directions specify six inches from the neck and chest. Tom Ford’s Oud Wood All Over Body Spray excludes the face, eyes and underarms. Use those as examples of different application directions, then follow the label on your own product.
Can You Use Body Spray On Your Underarms?
Only if the particular product’s directions allow it. A deodorant spray and a fragrance-only body spray can look similar on a shelf. Read the label rather than applying every aerosol as if it were your usual deodorant.
For scent choices and the exact formats to compare, see the men’s body-spray list.
How Do You Make Body Spray Last Longer?
Choose a scent you enjoy through its drydown and apply it as directed. A body spray doesn’t have one guaranteed wear time, and adding more can make it stronger without making it last as long as you hoped.
If you normally use a body moisturizer, an unscented one keeps it from adding another fragrance. Let it absorb before applying a product that calls for dry skin. An oil-based fragrance isn’t automatically a moisturizing skin-care product.
If repeated top-ups are inconvenient, compare a sample of another fragrance or format. Our perfume-strength guide explains why neither concentration nor packaging predicts performance on its own.
Can Body Spray Irritate Skin?
Yes. The FDA identifies fragrance ingredients as potential allergens. A light smell, a natural ingredient list or a body-mist label doesn’t establish that a formula suits your skin.
Stop using a product that causes irritation. For recurring reactions, ask a healthcare professional about identifying the cause rather than trying to cover it with a gentler-sounding fragrance.
How To Choose Your Body Spray
Choose the purpose first, then the scent. AXE Dark Temptation is a sweet chocolate-and-tonka deodorant body spray; it makes sense if that’s the style you like. Choose something else if you prefer dry woods or fresh citrus.
Try a small size when possible. A scent you like at a distance may feel quite different during a full day of wearing it.
