Molecule 01 + Clary Sage brings a fresh herbal direction to Escentric Molecules’ woody Iso E Super theme. Geza Schoen’s addition to the Molecule + range uses clary sage in both oil and absolute form. It is worth sampling if aromatic greens appeal more than sweet fruit or rich flowers.
What the pairing adds
The official note list names Iso E Super and clary sage. Iso E Super provides a smooth, cedar-like woody character; the sage adds herbal brightness with fruity and floral nuances.
Fragrance Notes
In the launch announcement, Schoen describes an elderflower-like freshness and says clary sage is used at 10%. That is the stated amount of sage, rather than a label for the finished fragrance’s overall concentration. The two-note concept also differs from a complete ingredient list, which the brand supplies separately.
What wearers notice
Some wearers describe a fresh, tea-like impression. One enjoys the aromatic freshness without finding it cold or excessively herbal. Another finds it transparent, unsweet and relaxed.
The opening and strength divide opinion. One owner finds the first impression acrid and sharp, then particularly enjoys the woody skin scent it becomes. Another likes the tea-steam impression but wants more projection and longevity than they get from it. Tea here describes a perceived resemblance; it is not an added note on the brand’s list.
Is it the right Molecule + to try?
Choose this variation to explore herbs alongside the woody theme. If you already wear Molecule 01, compare them on separate days and notice whether you enjoy the sage opening as much as the later woods. If you are choosing among Molecule + releases, sample the added note you actually want rather than assuming they all wear alike.
Give the sample time to settle before deciding whether you want a bottle. For help separating an opening impression from the later scent, see top, middle and base notes.
