Flanker
A separate fragrance released as an extension of an existing perfume line, often sharing its name with an added word such as Intense, Sport or Elixir.
A flanker is a new fragrance within an existing perfume line. Its name usually retains a familiar part of the original name and adds a modifier. The new composition may explore a related direction or make a larger change.
Sauvage Elixir is an example within Dior’s Sauvage line. Dior describes its own mix of spices, lavender and woods, including a licorice note. Treat that as a particular perfume to compare, rather than assuming Elixir simply means more of the original EDT.
Keep the full name when reading reviews or buying a sample. A flanker is separate from reformulating an existing product, and a collector bottle can instead contain an existing scent in new packaging. Read the maker’s description to establish which kind of release you are considering.
