Chanel’s Les Extraits collection includes 1957 Extrait de Parfum, alongside interpretations such as Coromandel and Sycomore. June 2026 launch coverage introduced 1957 as a new addition to the collection. Its iris, neroli and woody musk make it a useful one to sample if you enjoy those notes together.
What is in 1957 Extrait?
Chanel describes the extrait through these notes:
Fragrance Notes
The name recalls Gabrielle Chanel’s 1957 Neiman Marcus Fashion Award in Dallas. The Extrait and 1957 Eau de Parfum are separate interpretations; the EDP is part of Les Exclusifs. Sample both if you already enjoy one version.
What owners enjoy
Some owners prefer the Extrait’s more noticeable cedar and vetiver to the EDP’s soapier musk. One particularly enjoys the clean iris opening and smooth sandalwood later on. Their wearer comments point toward wood and iris as the features to compare, rather than assuming the Extrait is simply a stronger EDP.
Do you need an appointment?
Chanel offers a boutique fragrance experience, but its product FAQ also describes purchasing through its website and selected boutiques. Check your regional Chanel site for the exact format and ask the boutique about sampling and appointments before visiting. The 30 ml stopper bottle and the purse spray are different formats; Chanel describes the purse spray as boutique-only.
For other Chanel directions, explore N°5 EDP for aldehydic flowers and vanilla, or Coco EDP for ambery florals with benzoin and tonka. Our Chanel shortlist compares three starting points; the concentration guide explains why the format alone does not guarantee wear time.
